cover reveal

Harris Gray hopes you’re hungry. VV is. Here’s the cover, a taste of what’s to come. Vampire Vic will be unleashed Friday March 8th, in e-book and in print, followed by a big bash blowout at Crowfoot Valley Coffee & Crowbar in Castle Rock, Colorado on Saturday March 9th. And with a sweet contest giveaway for our online launch party which begins March 8th!

Vampire Vic by Harris Gray — Release Date: March 8, 2013 / CreateSpace

Vampire Vic by Harris Gray

Would you give up donuts…for blood?

Fat, balding accountant Victor Thetherson hoped becoming a vampire would turn his life around. But Victor can’t stomach confrontation and gets queasy at the sight of blood. Instead he gets it from the blood bank, diluted in bloody Bloody Marys. The result: a vampire who doesn’t bite, and a man who gets no respect.

Victor’s slacking staff mockingly calls him Vampire Vic. Victor’s boss amuses his wife by intimidating Victor on video. His ex makes him stay out late while she entertains boyfriends in the house she insists they continue to share. One night it finally boils over, and Victor bites someone. And then another…and very soon, he’s no longer visiting the blood bank.

Muscle replaces fat, and his comb-forward widow’s peak takes root. Victor basks in newfound attention and respect, at the office and at home. But real vampires get hunted, and as the transformation reaches the tipping point, Victor must decide how much he’s willing to sacrifice for the power of the vampire.

People look at Harris Gray, and blink, and squint, as if looking through the optometrist’s lenses and waiting for her to turn the dial another click. While struggling to determine whether they are seeing one author or two, they will often ask Harris Gray, “How do you do what you do?” Sometimes the look on their faces suggests they really meant “why”. How & why Harris Gray?…we have been me for so long, that question is the mind-bending picture of the snake swallowing its own tail. Until now. Because the “origin” e-mails have surfaced. Harris Gray wishes they hadn’t, but they have, and so they must be put on the Internet, that much is clear, and no other site will have them.

Just like the Coors brewing operation, Harris Gray cranks out product deep in the heart of the Rockies. Actually Harris Gray and Coors are nowhere near the heart of the Rockies, unless the Rockies can live with its heart torn out and slapped on the concrete slab that is metropolitan Denver. (It cannot.) By all rights Coors and Harris Gray should only claim to be “inspired by the deep heart of the Rockies”, or perhaps “based on the spirit of the nearby heart of the Rockies.” The water for Coors’ beer travels under the mountains through a pipe (and then through a water treatment plant, hopefully). Harris Gray drives three hours in traffic to spend the weekend in a family cabin close to the Rocky Mountain National Park, where they sometimes get ideas.

There the similarities end. Coors uses that water to produce the same beer every time. Harris Gray takes those ideas and crafts different stories. So why even compare Harris Gray and Coors beer? Harris Gray much more resembles the many Colorado craft brewers, brewing something different all the time. But, those craft breweries are not deep in the heart of the Rockies.
